Amphibians

There are an estimated 98 species of amphibians in the Mediterranean region - a much higher species richness than in central and northern Europe.

In December 2004 experts meet to discuss the species assessments for all of these species and to assess their status and distribution. An initial global assessment of the status of over 5,700 amphibians world-wide is available in a searchable data-base at www.globalamphibians.org.

Below are some examples of the draft assessments for four of the species. Please do not quote these assessments until they become final.
