to the workshop on high seas marine protected areas
held in Malaga, Spain on 15-17 of January 2003.
This workshop, organized in collaboration with WWF, gathered experts on marine
protected areas in the high seas at the global level and enabled the identification
of an action plan to promote marine protected areas in the high seas in order
to ensure a long term conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity
and ecological processes in areas beyond national jurisdiction
The
contributions made during the workshop are reproduced
here after. Presentations include in particular two
background documents addressing legal and scientific
aspects of marine protected areas in the high seas.
Among the contributions available here interesting
topics are addressed pertaining to governance of
the oceans at the global level, the Ligurian Sanctuary
